Work in physics is defined as the force aligned with the line of displacement multiplied by the displacement.
[tex]W=Fd[/tex]
[tex]F[/tex] is measured in Newtons and [tex]d[/tex] is measured in meters so [tex]W[/tex] is measured in [tex]N*M[/tex] or [tex]J[/tex] (joules) which is also the unit for energy.
