Answer:
The food we eat contains complex organic molecules which have to be broken down into simpler molecules by chemical reaction to extract energy from them. For example carbohydrate like glycogen is broken down into glucose by some enzymes like Glycogen phosphorylase.
Then this new simpler molecules are absorbed in the body through intestine. The glucose reaches the cell where by aerobic respiration it gets oxidized into CO2 and in this process, energy molecules are formed in the form of ATP which support the growth of cell.
Chemical reactions are required to break down food materials in the body in order to form new molecules that support growth and or release energy to an organism.
Food is composed of chemical substances. The chemical substances in food are required for the survival of living organisms. When an organism ingests food materials, complex chemical reactions commence in which the food materials are broken down into their respective component units which are now assimilated into the body. This process is called digestion.
Hence, chemical reactions are required to break down food materials in the body in order to form new molecules that support growth and or release energy to an organism.
