Answer:
Skeletal system provide strength and protection to heart and also produces essential blood cells such as RBC and WBC
Explanation:
All organ systems in our body work in co-ordination with each other. Skeletal system comprised of bones and cartilages while cardiovascular system comprises of hearts, blood and blood vessels. Firstly the skeletal system protects the heart and also assists in its pumping along with muscle. Secondly, the blood cells such as RBC and WBC are circulated by the blood throughout the body. However these cells are produced in the bone marrow (inside the bones)
The skeletal system contributes to the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system in the following way:
- The bones are arranged forming cavities that provide protection to structures from possible trauma such as the thorax, where the heart is located, as well as arteries and veins.
- Bone is made up of a protein matrix that is mostly mineralized with calcium (the most abundant).
Calcium within cells performs a host of fundamental physiological functions, such as excitation-contraction coupling in muscle fibers.
- Bone tissue comprises bone sheets, formed by proteins that are loaded with mineral salts that pass into the blood, these mineral substances do not fix uniformly in the bone tissue and vary depending on what the blood absorbs.
- Hematopoiesis is the process that produces blood-forming elements by forming new blood cells.
This is done in the adult in the bone marrow housed in different bones of our body.
In the bone marrow there are pluripotential stem cells that generate the different lines of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.
The cardiovascular system has the function of directing the blood that contains the cells produced in the bone marrow, to all the tissues of the body, so that the cells obtain the oxygen and nutrients they require to maintain their activity.
Therefore, we can conclude that the skeletal system protects the heart, stores and releases mineral substances such as calcium and produces blood cells, which contribute to the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system.
