 the second tree will be 27+½t feet tall.

When they are the same height,

13+4t = 27+½t

subtract ½t from both sides

13+3½t = 27

subtract 13 from both sides

3½t = 14

divide both sides by 3½

t = 14÷(3½) = 14÷(7/2) = 14× (2/7) = 4

The trees will be the same height in 4 years.
