What are three reasons that the United States had for refusing to annex Texas after it became independent?

1. getting rid of Texas would disrupt the equalness of slave states and free states.

2. losing Texas could initiate war between the US and Mexico

I couldn't find a third one in my notes we just covered the first and second one.
