The first term of an arithmetic sequence is -3 and the fifteenth term is 53. What is the common difference of the sequence?

The answer is 4. So d=4.. a=-3 and a+14d=53 where a is -3 so substitute a into the second eqn so -3+14d=53 then find for d so...14d=56 so d=4
