Given y = xy + x^2 +1, first find y = f(x) = (x^2 + 1) / (1 - x). Then use the quotient rule for derivatives.
dy/dx = [( 1 - x)( 2x) - (x^2 + 1)(-1)] / (1 - x)^2. Substitute the value of x = -1 into the above derivative and get -1/2.
