An argument that is supported by research and strong evidence is called a thesis statement. That is usually the last sentence in the introductory paragraph which explains what you will be writing about throughout the remainder of your essay. It has to have strong evidence that will help you support your claims, but also a hook to intrest your readers in continuing reading what you wrote.
