Frodo and Gandalf have different responses to the Ring and what their reactions illuminate about their respective heroism is that they do not fear, because Frodo was able to volunteers himself so that he can keep the Ring as well as  guard it.

What is heroism?

Heroism can be described as the act which involves putting others first, as well as making sure those around you is safe when there is trouble or unbalance act around the corner even at your own peril.

It should be noted that this act of heroism can be seen in the lives of Gandalf where Frodo because Frodo was afraid to destroy the ring then he just offer it to Gandalf but the wizard can sense it that it will become a danger to him, but Gandalf knew that the ring can be destroyed using the "crack of doom" and he took the responsibility which shows the act of heroism.
