Respuesta :

sound waves cannot travel through a vacuum. sound waves are mechanical. because the are mechanical they can not move through a vacuum due to their propagation they require oscillation of matter.

The correct answer to the question is- Sound waves i.e the sound waves can not move through vacuum.

EXPLANATION:

Sound wave is a mechanical longitudinal wave which requires a medium for its propagation. The medium may be solid, liquid or gas. It can not travel in space or vacuum.

As per Clark Maxwell's electromagnetic theory, the electromagnetic radiations are the waves which contain time varying electric and magnetic fields which are perpendicular to each other as well as perpendicular to the direction of propagation.  Any electromagnetic wave can travel in space with the velocity of light i.e [tex]3\times 10^8\ m/s[/tex].

As per the question, we have X-ray, gamma ray, visible light and sound wave.

Except sound, all the waves i.e visible light, gamma ray and X-ray are electromagnetic in nature. So, these waves can travel in space.

Hence, the correct answer of this question is sound wave which can not travel in space or vacuum.
