1$ would be the answer. Because if half of the 12 dollar fines would be 6$. And then in order for the 6 books to equal out evenly it would have to be 1$

Jack owes $1.00 for each book. $12.00 ÷ 2 = $6. $6 ÷ 6 = 1. So your answer is $1.00.
