The Patriot Act is considered the most important counterterrorism law ever passed by Congress.
The act’s official title is “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism,” or USA-PATRIOT. It constitutes a legislation passed in 2001 to enhance the abilities of U.S. law enforcement to detect and deter terrorism. It consists on a document of more than 300 pages which was signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001.
